A creative well-written cover letter is often best way to make your resume and yourself discriminated in crowd. Some candidates cannot discriminate the resume from cover letter. Resume outlines your whole qualifications, skills and achievements while cover letter tells the employer how you could be beneficial for company. Cover letter performs functions like persuasive sales letter to convince the employer that you are the best person for this job.
- Before writing cover letter you should prepare a copy of job description and follow it carefully. Use key words to highlight your specific qualifications and competencies to create a competitive edge, for this purpose conduct some research about employer, organization and nature of job.
- The employer will receive lots of applications so candidate needs to ensure that his/her resume can grab the attention of employer. Therefore indicate key qualifications for position and avoid from “I am offering my services” and write as “Please accept the enclosed resume in application for….position.
- Send your resume to right person and instead of using Dear Sir/Madam, you should try to find out name of specific employer and addressed him/her personally. The visual impression is most important so use good quality paper and match font and quality of your cover letter with resume.
- In opening of cover letter expand your key qualifications and demonstrate them how they will be beneficial for the company. You can divide your cover letter in different paragraphs according to your work experience and qualifications.
- You should write your achievements with relative practical examples in brief stories. Avoid from repetition and make your cover letter discriminated from resume.
- The cover letter should contain only one page with 3-4 paragraphs. Try to write in concise, clear and comprehensive manner with no repetitive & unnecessary information.
- The cover letter should end with a strong request for an interview. You must proof read your resume to avoid from spelling, grammar and typos mistakes. You should try to send your application before dead line.
