Resume is a marketing brochure and a glorified application. Resume is responsible for your first impression before perspective employer. A compelling resume highlights the scope and intensity of your experience. It explains your expertise which you have developed as a whole in your career according to your future employer needs. A perfect resume communicates a compelling reason for your selection and match your skills and expertise with employer’s needs. In today’s competitive market the importance of compelling resume increase gradually. If you want to get an interview opportunity then you will need a shiny resume which reflects your complete professional history and qualifications. After completion of your studies it is a time for building up your career.
Here are some simple ideas to make your resume shine:
- Measure the relevancy of your resume with your career goals. Always try to include only applicable data about your employment history and omit all extra details.
You should use action words in your resume about your goals and objective. If you want to mention your achievements related to previous job you can use action words like “promote sales” or “increase profit”.- You can sprinkle your resume abundantly with industrial buzzwords to illustrate your accomplice know-how.
- Adjust your previous job responsibilities and duties with job description of specific position you want. Provide sound reason to perspective employer to call you for interview.
- You can use active voice and bullet points to make your information easy to read and to digest. Steer clear about passive verbs.
- Avoid from extra and unnecessary detail and try to fit your resume on one page. It doesn’t matter that how broader experience you have, your resume should fit on one page because the hiring authorities have plenty of resumes and have no time to read second page of your resume.
- If you are sending hard copy of your resume then carefully choose stationary like use high quality paper & printer and make it sure that resume and cover letter both have same quality paper and ink. The print of resume and cover letter should be clear and readable.
- Try to use high quality laser printer or ink jet printer for crisp letters. Don’t use old inkjet printers and dot matrix that can smear and blur.
- If you are interested in high technology field then for good impression send your resume through e-mail.
- Leave sufficient equal space on all four margins. If you have plan to send your resume through post then try to send your resume before time so that it can arrive at an opportune time.
- If you are sending your resume through e-mail then use standard fonts and try to avoid bolding, underlining or italicizing text impressions.
- Don’t include any information relative to your hobbies like race, about your age or politics, religious or sexual orientation.
