Old workersResume is an important tool for job search for all kind of candidates either they are fresh candidates, experience professionals or senior workers (after retirement). If you want to join a new job after retirement or after the age of 55 then it is the time to design a new resume for new job. If you plan to design a new resume by yourself then it can be intimidating but by following some simple and easy tips you can design a compelling resume for you. It is not necessary that you are a retired person or you may be unemployed as a result of downsizing, mergers and company’s decision to replace higher-paid old workers with lower-paid young workers.

You are not alone in this situation; many other people are also facing this situation. If you are tired of doing same job for last 25 years and now you are seeking for a new career then these tips are also work for you because now you need a new resume. Although there is some age discrimination in some employer’s mind but good news for old people or workers is that maximum employees are now recognizing the value of hiring “Silver” workers.

Resume Format

This format is best for fresh inexperienced candidates but not for experienced workers. Instead of it use functional resume (where you write skills in front or centre) or combinations resume (this format merges functional and chorological resume format). If you have a lot of experience or jumped in a lot of careers then the functional resume is right for you.

If you have one specific career and has maximum or minimum stayed in one industry then you can choose resume format between functional and combination.

Don’t Mention Dates

You often mention dates with your college qualifications. No doubt it is a good idea but if you avoid from dates of your degrees and college education then it will be better for you. Some experts also advice to exclude dates of previous employment, instead of it you can simply state the number of year in previous employments and titles of positions.

The general rule of thumb means you only mention the position of your last 15 years experience. You can be little more flexible if you have same positions in the company for more than last 15 years. If you have impressive accomplishments in date back more than 15 years then you can create a separate section for list of those achievements and success.

Keep Stress on Continues Learning

If you want to join a new job or career then keep you up-to-date and the best way for this is continuing education. Even if you have many years of experience but leave your formal education then it can become hurdle between you and your success because before hiring, the employer make it sure that either you have diversification skills or not. Therefore it is essential to prominent all degrees along with continuing education and broadcast your computer skills.

Deemphasize Titles

Sometimes your previous job title can become your bad luck for example if hiring authorities look at your title like president then they assume that you are out of their price range. You may face rejection on the basis of assumptions due to your titles. If you want to secure your job then use softening lofty job titles like senior managers instead of president.

Work Ethics

There is an assumption in society that the younger professionals have no strong work ethics and are less loyal than old generation. This mental outlook is in favor of old workers. You can communicate your loyalty, responsibility and reliability through your resume or cover letter to find a perfect job in your desired organization.
