Hiring authorities are usually saturated with pile of resume on their desk and anything that you can do to stand out from pack works to your advantage. The follow up letter give an impression that you sincerely want job. Follow up letter also provide you a chance to restate your qualifications for job. At least a follow up letter will prompt a letter explaining you are interested in job position. The majority of employers say that they invite those candidates for interview who follow up after submitting resume instead of those who don’t. Follow up letter can put your name at front of employer’s mind while also stressing your interest in certain position.

You can send a follow up letter after submission of resume by following some tips:

Mailing Your Letter

• You should wait at least for 4-5 days a week before sending a follow up letter after submission of your resume. Human resource personnel will be busy in reading resume and don’t need any irritating interruptions. You should take care that you will convey your interest in job and also don’t seem overeager.
• Make it sure that you select same paper on which you wrote your resume. You can use different color like white, cream or light gray that will stand you out of pile. You should avoid from colors like neon green because it is not a professional color. You can pick a slight larger size than an average size so that it pokes out of pile.
• You should write letter concise and to the point. It must include your full name and contact information. You can briefly recap your qualifications in follow up letter. You should close this letter with a thank you note for their concentration and chance to work for company.
• You can also attach your resume with letter for manager’s convenience.

Emailing Your Letter

• You can repeat same instructions as you will do in mail letter although emails aren’t as formal in format.
• You can put your resume in the body of email because various organizations have email filters that remove attachments from incoming message to ward off computer viruses.
• You should say thank to person for forwarding on email if you suspect correspondence is going to middle man.
• You can call company instead of sending letter to make it sure that hiring authorities received your resume. You can conduct some research to find out to get name of some hiring managers or potential boss and call him with his/her name. This will show your persistence and you can be able to sell yourself on phone.
