Journalism is a profession in which all news are presented in the newspaper or on any other media after collection and proper editing of information. Journalism is concerned with different media like newspapers, magazines, radio and television. Journalists are the people who always keep looking for what, who, why, where, when and how. The journalist can work in the field of radio, television, magazine and world wide through internet. If you are going to step in journalism career then your resume is your first interaction with prospective employer. In journalism field your style and personality are very important and you should craft your resume in such a way that it will reflect your all qualities.
- If you want to design your resume for journalism jobs then write your most relevant experience at top. If you have journalism degree then start with your educational achievements but incase if you have poor educational background for journalism but have one or more professional credit with your name then dedicate first section of your resume for work experience.
- List your work experience as a journalist in detail instead of only your job titles and publication credits. Elaborate your working experience in 2-3 lines to provide a clear idea to employer about your general writing skills.
- You should include your complete past history of employment and try to highlight all responsibilities in all these jobs related to journalism and relate them with requirements of position you want to apply for. This will create a positive impression of you that you are hardworking and trustworthy in the work place.
- If you are a published writer then mention it in your resume but you can not send your work with your resume unless employer requests for it. You should mention all publication honors and awards you have received and put a note at the end of resume that sample work can be provide upon request.
- Proofread your resume to make sure that it is properly formatted and is free from all errors, mistakes and irrelevancy. You can also request someone to proofread it because grammatically correct resume is very important when you are applying for job in journalism career. Even single typo mistake, poor structured sentences can spoil your image.
- You should write down all relevant volunteer experiences, internship and school journalism jobs. If you wrote for school magazine or have done internship at local news paper office it doesn’t matter, include it in your resume.
- The world of journalism is very small and a good reference for this job helps you a lot to find a perfect job so include quality references in your resume.
